"I will not set anything worthless before my eyes. I hate the practice of transgression; it will not cling to me." (Psalm 101:3, HCSB)
We must be careful what we watch. That's why my wife and I are in the habit of checking out the content ahead of time of movies that we suspect could be bad.
We use the Internet Movie Database to do that, and highly recommend it. Just go to https://www.imdb.com/, look up a movie, and then click Parental Guide. There you will get an unbiased report of the number of occurrences of sex, nudity, and cursing.
Another great way to learn about the content of a movie is commonsensemedia.org. Go to https://www.commonsensemedia.org/ to explore this excellent resource.
The theme or plot of a movie can be bad even if the content is clean, and that is where reading a review by a fellow Christian can be helpful. We usually go to https://christiananswers.net/spotlight/ for that.
Pureflix provides family-friendly video streaming: Just go to https://pureflix.com/ to check them out.
Faithlife gives you access to thousands of Christian movies, documentaries, and quality teaching. Go to https://connect.faithlife.com/ to learn more.
Hallmark has family-friendly movies, though they are usually less overtly Christian than what you will find on PureFlix. Many of them are chick-flick movies, which appeal to my wife. Go to https://www.hmnow.com/ to subscribe.
I really love sci-fi and adventure movies. But most of them have some bad content, so that has severely limited what I can watch. However, Clear Play, a service that filters sex, nudity, cursing and violence from movies, enables me to watch movies I really would have wanted to see were it not for some bad content.
Clearplay now works with Amazon streaming video. The movies are filtered through a Google Chrome extension, meaning that you must watch them with a device that is capable of using the Chrome browser, such as a laptop or entertainment PC. Go to http://amazon.clearplay.com/ to install the filter. It is free for the first 30 days, and then costs $1 per movie - well worth it!
Clearplay also has a BlueRay player that filters out bad content which you can purchase here:
https://try.clearplay.com/blu-ray-player/
If you use their Blu-Ray player however, I would avoid buying a movie new that you would consider to be bad if it were not filtered. If you really want to see it, buy it used instead, so as not to support the production of such movies. Or rent it for free using a coupon.
